Yes, any would work fine. Chicken, celery or onion are great choices. Sometimes you can find bacon.

Potatoes don’t freeze well, so I don’t recommend this one as a freezer meal. Also, yes, ground beef should be browned first. In recipes like this they turn into a paste if not browned first.

Good casserole! I used frozen mixed vegetables and it worked very well. Easy to assemble.

A regular & easy go to for me.

I don’t think potatoes freeze very well, so I don’t recommend.

Very gracious response to an inconsequential comment. 🙂

In reply to Tim.

And it’s not as if “anonymous” even tried the recipe and didn’t like it, just made a snap judgment in general. And, in that case, I agree. Just move on and find something else that has ingredients you approve of, right? Such a pointless criticism. I’m not fond of corn, so guess what, I just substitute a can of green beans and enjoy the recipe with my own spin. Easy.

It’s hard to say without testing. I would hydrate them first, and I can see it working.

That is something I keep in my pantry.

If you can find cream of onion, or cream of celery soup, both work well.

The consistency will be mushy and more soup like if you use frozen potatoes.
